Founder

Kristen Kenney contracted a deadly bout of malaria in 2009 while filming a documentary in Tanzania. Lucky to survive, she made it her mission to fight back, one bracelet at a time. She started selling bracelets from Africa to friends and family in America. The concept ‘buy a bracelet, save a life’ soon took off.  Kristen, a sports reporter by day,  handles the day to day operations at Malaika, but does not take a salary.

Anna Wascher joined Malaika in 2009 as COO and partner to focus on women’s self-sufficiency and sustainable business opportunities in Africa. Anna created our partnership with the Tamiha women’s group, the makers of our beautiful bracelets!  On a return trip to Tanzania in 2010, Anna helped deliver $10,000 of malaria medicines and developed key operations on the ground for our bracelet production program.

Malaika For Life operates under California 501c3 Hope Through Opportunity, founded by Alice Hiatt in 2008 to bring hope and opportunity to the people of the Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania. Alice has visited Africa every year for the last 15 years. She takes a group of volunteers up Mount Kilimanjaro and to the villages to appreciate the ‘real’ Africa. Her Story

Father Aloyce works with Hope Through Opportunity 42 clinics and 14 health facilities in Moshi, Tanzania. Father Aloyce is committed to ending malaria and was personally affected by malaria in 2011, when a deadly bout kept him in the hospital for three weeks.

Life Project For Africa aims to save lives and give hope to the poor in Africa, through services that promote HEALTH, provide EDUCATION, tackle POVERTY, provide HOMES (Shelter) to the homeless, and support ORPHANS and vulnerable children among the very poor communities. We are working together to end malaria with a special LPA bracelet where a portion of the proceeds will benefit malaria at LPA’s health facility.
